A group of researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed an Artificial Intelligence system that is able of translating ‘dead’ languages.

The main goal of this system, directed by Professor Regina Barzilay, from the MIT, is to help linguists to decrypt languages that have gone extinct.

According to recent researches, most of the languages that have existed throughout History are no spoken anymore, and many of the are lost or have not been decoded due to the lack of knowledge about their grammar or vocabulary.

In this sense, the AI system developed by the MIT researchers is able of automatically decoding dead languages without the need of having advanced knowledge of its relation with other languages.
