Under the framework of “Sovereignty Conflicts in Europe: Bases for a Solution” international conferences, organized by Eusko Ikaskuntza (Basque Studies Society) and the Institut d’Estudis Catalans (Catalan Studies Institute), Bases for the elaboration of a code of good practice aiming to strenghten the European project and the links between the citizens and the different territories have been presented.
From the 11th to the 13th of November, a wide range of academic, institutional and socio-political reference people have gathered to reflect on the current status of a common European project, its structuring and democratization, in relation with the sovereignty conflicts and the paths to reach solutions to overcome such conflicts.
During the session held in the 13th, the document Bases for the elaboration of a code of good practice in the resolution of territorial conflicts over sovereignty (document in Spanish) has been presented. The text, analytical and proactive in nature, notes the existence today in the world and in Europe of conflicts that are not residues of a distant past but expressions of demands that must be channelled through contemporary democratic instruments and resolved with scrupulous respect for human rights.
In conclusion, the transnational collective promoting the Bases for the elaboration of a code of good practice in the resolution of territorial conflicts over sovereignty is convinced that those actions will strengthen the Community project as they affect its founding values and contribute to its stability by providing the European institutional architecture with a system of governance that would reinforce the links between citizens and territories.
